Technology giant Google is preparing to expand a San Francisco carpooling program in a move that could that could set up a showdown with its one-time ally, the popular ride-hailing service Uber.
David Drummond, Alphabet's chief legal officer, has stepped down from Uber's board of directors. The move comes as Uber and Google increasingly compete for resources in the self-driving space.
Despite hundreds of millions invested in the acquisition and buildout of its fiber network, it's still slow going for Fiber, Google's gigabit internet service, with time- and capital-intensive limitations.
