Avaya has introduced Government Outsourcing Solutions (GovOS) -- hosted and managed services for unified communications, contact centers, and data Relevant Products/Services networking. The services are designed to provide central management Relevant Products/Services, priced on a per-user basis, that complies with the federal government's requirements for security and certification.

GovOS, introduced Tuesday, uses and combines Avaya's Aura unified communications applications, networking and services, which the company said were scalable from small remote Relevant Products/Services offices to large organizations containing tens of thousands of employees. Communications apps Relevant Products/Services include ones for mobile Relevant Products/Services devices and for delivery of video.

Collaborative Cloud Framework

GovOS is built on Avaya's Collaborative Cloud Framework, which delivers collaboration Relevant Products/Services services and apps through a single, scalable architecture Relevant Products/Services provided through the company's cloud Relevant Products/Services service providers.

The company has said that its Cloud Framework is differentiated from other company's cloud offerings because of its emphasis on lowering operational costs, and on improving clients' ability to compete by enabling rapid innovation. To deliver these values, Avaya says, the Framework offers choice and extensibility.

Chris Formant, president of Avaya Government Solutions, said in a statement that GovOS provides "a more affordable and secure Relevant Products/Services way to migrate to new collaborative communications capabilities," by reducing costs and responding to various federal initiatives, such as support for telecommuters or for new outbound emergency notification programs.

The company said that delivering collaborative communications apps with GovOS over a highly secure cloud, or hybrid solutions involving the government's infrastructure Relevant Products/Services, will save the average federal organization about 25 percent of its communications budget over a three-year period.

Avaya noted that custom cloud services it currently provides for a large, although unnamed federal agency for 90,000 users "scored 9.8 on the most recent federal IT dashboard."

Security Certification Standards

In one configuration of the service, private hosted services are available via the company's Government Services' cloud-based platform. In the other, it can be provided to an organization's own network Relevant Products/Services, as a private managed service.

In both configurations, the company's Federal Network Operations Center provides 24x7 support for the apps and the infrastructure, based on ITIL standards. In terms of security certification standards, GovOS complies with the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) and with the standards-in-development for Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) accreditation.

In February, Avaya introduced its Communications Outsourcing Solutions (COS) to help companies increase performance and reduce costs of managing their communication environments. It is part of the company's Managed Services portfolio, and provides customized solutions and comprehensive management of a client's full communications environment. COS also uses the Collaborative Cloud Framework.

Based in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, Avaya provides business collaboration and communications products and services worldwide, including unified communications, contact centers, data solutions, and related services. Its Government Solutions unit provides these solutions to governments around the world.
